Speaker:  Professor Coxhead, Chair of the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics at UW-Madison

This communist country, through 30 years of economic reforms, has become a development success story.  We will learn how Vietnam seeks to balance its communist interests with its desire to be a major player in global capitalism.

Professor Coxhead is Chair of the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics at UW-Madison. His research and teaching program is focused on Southeast Asia, with special emphasis on Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam. He was Director of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies between 2002 and 2005. He has written over 50 academic papers and four books on the economic problems of Southeast Asia.
